Here you can find the latest UK student accommodation news headlines for the week ending the 10th August 2011:
Student Accommodation Development in Bradford
8th August 2011: Two hundred new student bedrooms are being created in place of a disused office block which is being redeveloped. The new £6.9 million scheme based in Bradford, is the brainchild of Manchester-based property developers FreshStart Living.
The company specialises in renovating old buildings to create student accommodation and has already been through the process in a number of cities home to the top universities in the UK. Indeed, they recently refurbished two former local authority tower blocks in Salford and Liverpool, to create accommodation for international students. What's more, they also currently have three separate projects on the go in Manchester which will create hundreds of Manchester student homes.
Controversial Student Accommodation in Leicester
9th August 2011: The building of a controversial new student accommodation tower has begun in Leicester after planning permission was finally agreed at the end of last year. The 216 foot tower is expected to cost £13million and will house 359 students once it is completed in September 2012. The rooms will be split between international student accommodation and UK students.
As with much student accommodation in London, the plans have been met with a number of concerns voiced by the locals. It will be one of the tallest buildings in the city and there were over 40 objections then the plans were first revealed. One resident who has lived in the areas for fifty years said:
"The area around here has lost all character - it used to be a factory but now it will just be more and more students."
The development will be used to accommodate students from numerous universities and top business schools in Leicester.
