2,000 Student Rooms in London to be Sold
16th September 2011: Three UK student halls of accommodation are up for sale for £500million. The halls are all known under the name Nido, and are owned by U.S. private equity company Blackstone. However, the company is now looking to sell its portfolio to a number of interested parties.
Nido halls offer over 2,000 rooms of student accommodation in London, with buildings in King's Cross, Spitalfields and Notting Hill. They are one of the main providers of accommodation for international students, serving top London universities as well as colleges in London.
As well as the premises in London, there is also a development in Barcelona, Spain under the same Nido name. This will also be sold sometime in the next year, with the shortlist of potential buyers being drawn up in October.
Students Complain About Manchester Accommodation
21st September 2011: The owners of a student accommodation block in Manchester have received dozens of complaints from unhappy students who have moved in for the new academic year. Amongst other things, students have claimed that many of the rooms have not been cleaned, there are holes in doors and shower heads and curtains are missing at Manchester Student Village.
The halls are run by MCR Students, a company that provides thousands of Manchester student homes. In response to the claims, they say that all complaints are being dealt with as quickly as possible and that their suppliers are working on replacing any damages items.
Manchester has one of the biggest student populations and is home to one of the top universities in the UK. There are thousands of rooms of UK and international student accommodation in the city.
