Tips for Spending Fresher’s Week in London

London is by far one of the most exciting, biggest and most diverse cities in the world. Therefore if you are lucky enough to study at university there, you're bound to have an incredible time. However, as it is so vast, it can be a little overwhelming at times to fresher's, but fresher's week is arguably the best week of your student experience!

Therefore we've put together some tips for spending fresher's week in London, regardless of which of the city's 45 higher education institutions you're at, to make sure you have an amazing time.

Go to your university's fresher's fair

Fresher's week isn't all about the parties and the alcohol; it's the main chance for you to get to know the people behind your university and to get involved in things like uni societies. Head to your uni's fresher's fair where you can sign up to societies, chat to members of your student union, nab a load of freebies from local businesses and ask any questions you may have regarding your chosen city/uni.

Wimbledon

Great British traditions don't come much bigger than Wimbledon, the fourth annual grand slam tennis event that's been going on since 1877. While you're watching some of our most famous tennis players such as Andy Murray battle it out for that all important championship prize, why not hedge your bets to make the games even more exciting?

Another tradition that you can't miss out on while you're at Wimbledon is strawberries and cream. It's estimated that approximately 28,000 kg of strawberries are sold over the Wimbledon fortnight, with over 7,000 litres of cream, so make sure you're one of the lucky ones who gets to indulge.

Wimbledon is also a hotspot for celebrity visitors, including our very own Royal Family - indeed, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge attend without fail every year. If you're a royals fan, make sure you take your camera to this prestigious event, which takes place this year from Monday 23rd June until Sunday 6th July.

Stars Descend on London for 2014 BAFTAs

The 2014 BAFTAs took place in London on Sunday, with the usual mix of A-list celebs, surprise winners, awkward speeches and deserved recognition.

12 Years a Slave took home best film and male lead Chiwetel Ejiofor claimed best actor, and yet there was still the sense that the film was a little hard done by. In many critics' opinion (mine included) it is far and away the best piece of cinema not just of this year, but of many previous years too.

Hot dogs vs beef pies. Budweiser vs ale. There is an eternal battle of cultures between the US and UK, and this weekend we can add another to the list- American football vs rugby.

On Sunday night, it is of course the Super Bowl, but before then the Six Nations kicks-off on Saturday afternoon. Luckily for everyone involved, they don't clash, so you don't need to choose between two of the biggest sporting events from either side of the pond.
