Civil (Hydraulics) Design Engineer
My client is a major water company that operates across the South West region and they are looking for a Civil (Hydraulics) Design Engineer.
You will be responsible for:
• Undertaking option evaluation/assessment for projects within the required timescales and within agreed feasibility budgets
• The identification and assessment of suitable options and development of single least whole life cost sustainable solutions
• Full ownership of the preferred solution through outline design, detailed design and construction support
• Ensuring all solutions are safe to build, operate and maintain
• Preparation of the business case reports clearly defining the project proposals for submission to approval bodies
• Working closely with the all parties in the project team to ensure the right solution is delivered
• Communicating and quantifying any residual risks associated with the preferred solution
• Working in close collaboration throughout the design process, with Civils and M&E, providing any design input and advice where appropriate
• Investigating and applying innovative approaches to help the Client drive efficiency
• Where required, supporting the Project Manager in communicating with the Clients customers during the development of the preferred solution
• Support development of the team’s skills and capabilities, particularly the more junior members
The candidate will:
• Hold proven experience of preparing feasibility studies, outline and detailed design as well as a full appreciation of the key mechanical and electrical design interfaces to compliment your skills
• Have experience of working closely with contracting partners and Client customers
• Have experience of working to standards, codes and practices
• Demonstrate strong communication and report writing skills
• Have previous experience of working closely with the supply chain in delivering projects (with emphasis on financial, H&S, outputs, and quality)
• Have previous experience in the application of risk management principals, particularly in relation to environmental issues, interface with other utilities, highway authorities and other key stakeholders
• Demonstrate the experience and confidence in order to integrate a disparate set of stakeholders to deliver project objectives
• Be developing strong negotiation and influencing skills
To be suitable for the position you must have:
• Full UK driving licence
• Minimum 7 years experience
• Experience of representing the Client and leading/supporting the Project Manager with the various stakeholder interfaces, which will include the public and other interested parties
• Have strong IT and communication skills
• Desirable: Degree qualified in an Engineering or Environmental discipline
• Desirable: Full Membership status (or close to) of an appropriate professional body (e.g. ICE, CIWEM, I Mech E)
