Who are we looking for?

We have an excellent opportunity for motivated and enthusiastic graduates to join our two-year graduate scheme, where you will spend 80% of your time developing both your general work-related skills and professional qualifications, with 20% of your working time dedicated to graduate training and development. UKAEA has a nurturing community that learns from each other.

Within the 20% training and development, there is a core suite of activities designed to develop your professional and business skills. Elements of this programme are flexible and can be tailored to your personal development needs and to those of your specific job role.

What opportunities does the graduate scheme cover?

Roles and examples of the type of work/projects you could be involved in include:

* Performing engineering tasks such as system analysis, design, review and repair of legacy equipment, working alongside mechanical, systems and software engineers to produce new and innovative research equipment from design specifications.

* Applying simulation tools and developing fluid flow experiments to design and verify the performance of components for fusion reactors, collaborating extensively with external organisations to ensure application of state-of-the-art techniques.

* Originating and developing design solutions for new and existing UKAEA facilities and systems as well as for future fusion devices from concept to detailed design.

* Liaising with key stakeholders, to create and manage requirements, technical specifications and tender documentation.

* Producing technical reports, departmental notes and journal / conference papers and delivering presentations where relevant.

Our scheme is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) and the Institute of Physics (IoP) as a professional development scheme
